Exceptionally heavy rains have caused major disruption to travel in the lower South Island and this may affect guests travelling to us over the next several days.
If you are coming to Kaikoura from south of Christchurch - that is, Dunedin, Ashburton, Queenstown, Wanaka, Mount Cook and Lake Tekapo - we strongly advise that you check the NZTA website for warnings and alerts about road closures, diversions and road conditions, before setting out.
SH6 on the West Coast is particularly badly affected and many travel agent itineraries will undoubtedly have to be altered. Please contact your travel agent if your trip includes a visit to the West Coast glaciers.
If you are due to arrive in New Zealand in the next few days, check that your rental car company has your vehicle available for you. Many visitors are currently stranded and cars due to have been returned are stuck where they are.
Please keep us advised if your plans are disrupted and/or if you need to change them.
